How Do You Transfer Your Website From One Hosting To Account

Is your current web hosting provider no longer cutting? Do you want to sign up for an Hostgai account? Here are some tips that will help you move your site from your current web hosting provider to Hostgai.com.

  1.  Find an Hostgai Package

Once you have decided that Hostgai.com is the right web hosting company for you, the next step would be to find a package that is best suited for your website. In order to find the package that is right for you, you will want to consider the amount of space you will need, the cost, server configuration and etc. If you have any doubts on which package is right for your site, please feel free to contact us for additional help.

  1.  Back Up Your Site

Next you will want to make a copy of your files, as it is recommended that you maintain more than one copy of your website, not just the one that is on the web server. You should save a copy of your site to your computer before you move to an Hostgai.com account. In fact, you should do this before you even initiate the transfer. This is insurance just in case your current web host decides to end your web hosting account before you are ready. Seems a little crazy but there are less savory hosts that practice these measures.

IMPORTANT: You will want to ensure that you upload your files to the PUBLIC_HTML or www directory on the server or else they will not be visible on the Internet. Likewise, be certain that your homepage is saved as an “index” file e.g., index.htm, index.html, etc. It is also suggested you download FileZilla from http://filezilla-project.org/download.php, if you do not already have an ftp client.

  1.  Update Your DNS records

First, what are DNS records? Simply put, DNS records are a set of instructions that tell where to send your visitors.

Before updating your DNS records it is important to double check that everything is working properly on your website once you have loaded your files onto the new hosting configuration. Just to note, you can easily preview your new site using a temporary web address or IP address that Hostgai.com will provide to you upon signing up. This way you can preview your site before taking it live, giving you ample time to fix any issues that lie behind the scene.

So in order to complete your transfer to your new Hostgai.com web hosting account, you must update your DNS records with your current registrar in order to point visitors to your new site.

  • If you are transferring your domain to Hostgai.com, then we will update your DNS records for you.
  • If you are registering a new domain name with Hostgai.com, then again we will update your DNS records. Just to note: you will not want to point the domain at your old host first. This will only cause headaches and confusion, as it will cause your domain propagation to take longer and it will be more complicated. After you have requested a domain name and your payment have cleared, we will register your domain. This process can take up to 24 hours.
  • If you are only transferring your website and leaving your domain name with your current registrar, then you will need to give your current registrar the correct DNS information that we will provide to you. Changing your DNS records is a major step, so you will want to ensure that you give your current registrar the correct DNS information.

Once your DNS information has been updated your domain name will not be visible on the Internet for 24-72 hours. This process is called Propagation. Propagation is the time that it takes for the World Wide Web to update their records to redirect any updates to IP addresses and domain names. Until your domain has propagated, website and email will not function. In the meantime, we will provide you with a temporary URL which you may use to view your website and upload files.

  1.  Wait for DNS Records to Propagate Through the Internet

After your site has fully propagated, you will want to alert your old hosting company that you will be canceling your account. However, some browsers and applications maintain DNS records for more time. Therefore, it is typically advised to retain your old server live for 24-48 hours after your transfer has successfully been completed. This will help to mitigate the risk of losing any traffic or emails. Although most search engines update DNS records in 24 hours or less, it is better to be safe than sorry and keep both for a short period of time.

These are just some tips to make your transfer to Hostgai.com as smooth as possible. If you have any questions or concerns about transferring your site, please feel free to reach us by chat, email or phone anytime.

What is G Suite and Why Should I Consider Using It?

Are you looking for one of the most feature-rich and user-friendly solutions on the web that combines email, cloud storage, productivity software, calendars, and more? Do you hear people talking about how great they think Google’s products are and find yourself wondering what G Suite (formerly known as “Google Apps”) is?

G Suite is Google’s answer to a number of different productivity problems facing most companies and organizations. In one suite of tools, it offers solutions for email, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation decks, shared calendars, cloud storage, and much more. It offers these solutions at an affordable entry point of $3.20 per month per user. But, what do each of its tools have to offer your organization?

Gmail from Your Organization’s Address

Hostgai.com Hosting offers powerful email options, including a suite of webmail platforms, provided at no additional charge as part of its hosting packages. Still, many users prefer the familiarity and powerful features that Gmail offers. While many small businesses have, in the past, resorted to using personal email addresses on Gmail, this can look a bit unprofessional. One of the biggest benefits of a G Suite account is the ability to send email from your own domain, but using Google’s Gmail platform. In other words, your email address can be [email protected] instead of @gmail.com. Plus, with its seamless integration into the rest of G Suite, saving and attaching files with Google Drive, chatting via Hangouts, and accepting calendar invitations via Google Calendar are a breeze.

Google Calendar

Every organization should share an online calendar of some form to make coordination of efforts easier. Google’s Calendar app is one of the most popular and powerful available online, and it is part of G Suite. With it, you can create events that are easy to share with other members of the organization or those outside, sending invitations via email and allowing you to track who has accepted and rejected. It provides reminders, calendar sharing, and many other features found in expensive project management suites, but at a tiny fraction of the cost. And, it integrates well with a number of outside programs, making it possible for third party apps (like CRM and project management solutions) to easily add appointments and reminders. It also works on mobile devices, making it possible to easily have your calendar with you everywhere you go.

Docs, Sheets, and Slides

Effectively Google’s answer to Microsoft Office, Docs, Sheets, and Slides can satisfy an organization’s word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software needs. Designed to run smoothly on the Internet, there is no software to download (although there are optional desktop add-ons you can download for local, offline access). Because it runs on the web, some power-users may be unimpressed with the lack of certain features available in Microsoft’s much more robust offerings. But, for the average user performing most ordinary daily tasks, these solutions provide ample features sufficient to easily prepare a wide range of materials. Because they are part of the G Suite of applications, they all save automatically to the Google Drive and are easy to share across the organization or beyond. And, in those instances when additional features may be required, it is easy to download a copy of the files in a variety of formats to your computer, and then edit them in a competitor’s software.

Google Drive

At the heart of G Suite’s offering, Google Drive is easily one of the most useful productivity tools on the market today. At the entry level $5 plan, users get 30GB of cloud storage. For just $10, it is possible to get unlimited cloud storage (or 1 TB per user for organizations smaller than 5 users). Unlimited storage at such an affordable price is an option most other cloud storage companies simply do not provide.

What is cloud storage good for? Aside from simple backups of files on a local system, the keyword in working in a cloud environment is “collaboration.” Users can share folders and files, enjoy the benefits of automatic version control, and do even more with a number of third party apps. With a Google Drive, users can share and work on massive files, like large videos or media-heavy presentation decks. And with its integrations with the other G Suite apps, it is possible to email files, share them during a Hangout chat, append them to calendar invites, or use them in any number of other ways.

Google Drive is easily one of the most useful and powerful tools on the Internet today, and with an unlimited storage option available to G Suite users for a paltry $10, it alone makes Google’s productivity platform worth the investment.

Hangouts

Hangouts falls into that category of tools that most people do not realize they need until they get used to having it. An online chat and video conferencing solution, it allows teams to communicate within the G Suite ecosystem. Users can engage in traditional text chat, or start a video call right from their computers, inviting up to 25 people to join; perfect for organizations with members who work remotely or that have offices in multiple locations. Screen sharing is easy, making it ideal for long distance presentations, and file sharing is a breeze with Google Drive integration. Video calls are surprisingly stable, as well, making Hangouts far superior to many other video conferencing options — again at a fraction of the price.

Integrating G Suite with Your Organization and Website

While no solution is perfect for every person or organization in every situation, G Suite is a massively powerful, intuitive, and inexpensive option that millions of users have already chosen. And, with good reason! With its attractive and easy-to-understand user interfaces, integrations among its own programs and those of third party vendors, and powerful storage and productivity features, it is one of the most powerful and versatile productivity suites on the market today.

Resourceful web designers have also fallen in love with G Suite for its ability to boost their own sites. With a G Suite account, you can stream videos out of your Google Drive into your website, leveraging the power of Google’s massive network without bogging down your own server or overloading local bandwidth. Some like to tie a Google Calendar into their site to allow for easy appointment setting or to notify customers of days and hours of availability. Still others like to create presentations in Slides that live in the Google Drive but display on their website every time a visitor lands on a particular page. It’s no exaggeration to say that with the right know-how and a little creativity, even novice designers can create stunning, professional results on their websites by leveraging the power of G Suite.

For Hostgai.com Hosting customers, getting started with G Suite is easy. Just sign up for your account with Google, then follow the directions in this help article to redirect your email to Google’s servers, and you are in business.
